When I can turn it on, it turn it off again

Hi!

I have an iPhone 5S and it suddenly turned off (backlight on) and to turn it on again I needed to press the power + home button for some seconds. This worked for several days until it was almost impossible to turn in on again.

Because I was thinking this was a software problem I connected the iPhone to iTunes to be able to restore it but for some reason it was always turning off while restoring giving an error related to USB disconnection. I tried on multiple computers (2 Windows and 1 iMac) with multiple cables but the problem was the same until in the next day, after a lot of tried I was able to restore the iPhone but even before I was able to pass to Welcome screen it turned off again (only backlight) and refused to turn on again.

After some research online I found that the problem could be the battery, so I ordered a battery replacement kit on ifixit and it arrived yesterday.

I successfully replaced the battery but the problem is still there.

I believe that when the phone is with the black screen but with the backlight on it is in DFU mode because iTunes can recognize it in recovery mode. Now it keeps rebooting from the blackscreen to apple logo and blackscreen again until it gives up and turn off.

I read somewhere on this forum that it could be a problem with the charging dock connector that costs around 1.90€

Can this solve the problem?

What can it be?

Thanks in advance!

Since it's a cheap component and relatively easy to be changed and the battery was replaced already, that would be a good idea in any case. There might be a number of possible other issues, but apart from battery and dock they all point to the logic board failure.

I agree. At this point it's the easiest thing to try. Otherwise, it's probably a Tristar problem or worse. Fixable but on a 5S you have to determine how much money you want to invest in it.

Hi!

I followed the advice of @benjamen50 and the phone do not boot up.

The funny thing is that it haven't died completely because after a lot of tries to boot it boot successfully but randomly it turns off again.

I will not spend more money on it and I will buy a new phone.

It would be very nice if I take of the logic board and see if there is any king of chip that visually is not ok and with a bit of soldering could solve the problem.

Thanks for all help!

Except with water damaged phones, it's very unlikely you can see anything unusual in a faulty phone, even with a microscope ;)

Well a quick way to troubleshoot charging port being at fault is by simply unplugging the charging port inside the phone and try turning the phone on again.

Try doing this. It will reset your phone! Power it down, and then press the power and the vol down button, until it vibrates. Let go for 1 sec and then hold again until it says factory data reset. Then press the vol down until it is at yes. Then press the power button, and then do it again and done

Wait what? This isn't an android device. It's an iPhone and it won't do that.

The iPhone 7 however utilizes the volume down button to boot recovery mode instead of the home button.

Sorry sir, great guide but wrong phone. The iPhone 5S reset method is by home button and power button.
