iris, nothing is ever really dead :) If nothing else may be you can get another logic board of ebay or similar places. Wishing you all the best and good luck.

you need to clean it as oldturkey said in his first answer, let it dry, replace the battery and then see if it is truly dead

First of let it thoroughly dry out. Disconnect the battery. Clean the logic board with isopropyl alcohol Once the phone is dry and clean out i would start with replacing the battery. Than check what works. Most of the damage could be to the LCD and/or the logic board. But make sure that it is clean and dry before you do anything else. also do another visual check to see if you find any obvious damage. the corrosion is hopefully just superficial brought on by the drying over heat without removing the liquid. Hope this helps and let us know what you find so we can continue to assist you and your boyfriend with this.

Do what oldturkey suggests, drying and praying are NO help what so ever!! A thorough clean and change of battery +/- LCD change sounds very right
