My external flash drive is not detected.
my external flash drive is detected on my macbook air, and i can read the files, copy and paste, but it is not seen startup boot tab...
since i want to format my macbook, there is no way i can boot from the external flash drive.
any script that i should jot in the terminal. knowing that my flash drive is detected on the desktop but not on the startup boot section or tab.
please advise.

Have you tested it anywhere to be sure you have a boot-able flash drive? Is there a reason why you don't use Recovery Partition to reformat your MB HD?

How is the drive formatted? Exactly which MBA do you have? What OS X is installed on this drive?
