I have this problem too, and can get to the restart screen with the white apple, but it won't connect to itunes and nothing else happens.

Okay you can try this http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_conte... and see if it works. I do know that this generation has issues with the logic board, but that usually manifest itself in another way. If this should not resolve the issue, I'd disassemble it and check the connection from the logic board to the LCD for corrosion and/or water damage. Also, of course make sure that all your connection are seated properly. Hope this helps and let us know....good luck

That link is dead now.. could you please say the solution?

Partial solution found via the Wayback Machine, look it up to see the complete solution (it's too long to post here).

Reset the iPod:

Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.

If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.

Put iPod into Disk Mode:

Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.

Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears

Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top ...

For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).

Don't disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

May be too hot or cold(device).

1) warm it up for 5-10 min.(cover it with something warm)

2) lock and unlock switch 2 times. Hold same time (home+select)

3) when it restarts(when screen turns black, immediately hold the Play/Pause button for +10 seconds.

Cold

1) put in refrigerator for 3 min tops and do the same thing.

:)
