PowerBook G4 Titanium DVI Backlight Problems

Just like my Powerbook Titanium Mercury, this computer has been in storage for years. I was about to throw it away because its display was loose from the computer and you could see the wires. But I stored it becauseI thought I could fix it. Now it is out of storage. When I turn it on I hear the boot chime but nothing on the display screen. After I waited a while I saw a faint image on the screen. I put it near the light and a saw the display. I think the backlight is broken because before I stored it I saw that a grey wire was cut from the right part of the display. Is that the problem or is there a way to turn on the backlight on your computer or do I have to reconnect the grey wire?

Solución Elegida

1. PLEASE DON'T THROW AWAY A WORKING MAC!

2. Have you tried connecting the 2 grey wires? Strip both ends of them and twist them together. Then, secure it with some electrical tape. REMEMBER TO DO THIS WHEN THE COMPUTER IS OFF. Does anything work?

3. If it doesn't, is your inverter working? Can you try swapping the inverter for your screen?

4. This is extreme, but you can go buy a whole new display assembly and swap it out. It would be a waste to just throw away something that is still half working.

5. Turn it into a desktop computer. Get a display, and hook up your PowerBook to the display using the video adapter (can still be found on Apple's website store). And you have a nice desktop computer until you can fix it.

Hope this helps!

While I was connecting the wires for the computer, it suddenly turned on and shocked me. The shock was not powerful but it made me jump. Does this mean that the is the wire the connects the backlight to the display?

Bad news when I tried connecting the grey wires. When I connected them the display still did not light up. How can I be sure that those wires connect to the display? Did it shocking me damage it?
