Identify touch id problem
I have a 2nd iphone 5s with touch id didnt work. Is there any way to identify whether hardware problem or software problem might cause touch id not working?
thanks for advice

Do a DFU restore via iTunes and if touch ID still does not work then it's an hardware issue. If the home button has been replaced then touch ID will not work unless you have the original home button that came with the phone and is not damaged.

It like a look a hardware issue, not software problem since i try do a hard reset, restore, update IOS nothing to fix, i think flex cable was damage but not sure where is damage location, thanks
does it need a software update? Is the home button the original?
I have run into cases where a software update has caused the touch ID to work again after not working.

If all else fails, Apple can repair the touch ID for you.
Thank for response
Since it 2nd phone, cannot make sure home button still original
Some experiment :
-update from IOS 10.2 to 10.2.1 then try to 10.3 no result, back to IOS 10.2.1 again
-take off flexy home button from logic board, then turn on phone, add finger menu gray out, try to activate touch id for phone lock, it say's " unable to complete touch id setup, please go back and try again" my summary phone cannot detect touch id hardware
-re attach home flexy cable to logic board, then turn the phone on, add finger menu active, try to enrolle, get on page "start thumb your finger..,,," but next nothing happened
Any ideas? Hope touch id can be use....
If the update or restore doesn't do the trick then unfortunately Apple may have to be your next call. From what I understand, Apple can reprogram a home button to work with your device. So my suggestion is to give them a call and see if they can get touch ID working for you. I don't think any third party repair shops have that capability.

I would try an update before a restore so you don't lose info.
