You'll need to swap the drive with another Time Capsule unit that's assuming the drive is still good.

Ok.. here I created a new thread to show how I both removed the files from a HD directly removed from a TC.. and then since you seem to have not read what I wrote on the previous thread how I format it and put it back in the TC.

This drive is a 1TB WD from a Gen3 TC.

Here is the drive plugged in via USB to a Mac.

Here is the said drive showing up in Finder.

Here is the Main Data files on the TC drive.

Here is me copying these same pictures to the said drive.

Here is the data about the TC drive from disk utility.

You would need to remove the hard drive and connect it to your mac to recover the data off of it. Ill give a link and find your model and removal procedure. It isnt very hard to remove. Once its removed, you will most likely need a sata to usb adapter to connect it. Just do a search for sata to usb adapter and you should find one that will work.

Sorry @cam2363 - you can't take it out to connect to a Mac system. Unlike a Mac the Tame Capsule uses a different drive format which is not readable by a Mac, Unix, Linux or MS Windows system. Your only hope is to swap it out with another TC unit.

I have connect the TC hard drive to a Mac lots of times.. it is formatted standard HFS+ but if you use the wrong USB to SATA adapter it might not read correctly. Some adapters require you to format the drive.. but that is issue with USB not the SATA in the TC or its drive.

In fact I have a post from long ago about formatting a hard disk on a Mac to install in a TC.. I have done a few of hard disk upgrades where you can partition the disk before you install it.

The TC is remarkably consistent over the years. you can actually see hardly any change in disk setup from oldest TC to the latest.

Ray - I hate to tell you Tadas was trying to recover his files from the TC not reformat the HD!

Yes, you could re-use the HD by reformatting it via ones Mac or even a Windows PC. But! You then loose what was on the drive.

As to prepping the HD to then go into a TC using a Mac sorry that won't fly either. Once you put the drive into the TC the TC's firmware will do its thing reformatting it for use when you try to setup the TC via the Airport application running on your Mac or PC.
