iPhone drowned in toilet water

Hello,

My iPhone accidentally fell into the toilet during a party 2 weeks ago. (26/02/2017)I didnt realize it was in there for a good 15 minutes until someone fished it out, we immediatley put in a bag of rice and it had been sitting in rice for about 5 days before I took it out and tried to turn it on. It did not work so I took it out of the rice for a couple of days. My friend tried fixing it but couldnt open it so he gave it back to me and it's been sitting in rice since last tuesday (7/03/2017) it's been a week now (13/03/2017) I tried plugging it back in and it worked for about a couple of minutes and then I tried holding the phone, as soon as I moved the cable it just stopped charging.

Should I put it back in the rice ? Can it be repaired ?

Thanks so much

Considering present market prices for used iPhones 5 I seriously doubt it would be worth spending money to take it in for repair. It's been soaked long enough and not taken care properly for quite some time.. it is pretty likely when it was plugged into mains something got shorted too.

IMHO it would be quite possible you would end up paying to a lab an amount of money very close to market value without any guarantee it will be a long lasting repair, if and only _if_ they would manage to get it working. To make it short, sorry but.. forget about it.

Let's also not forget that putting devices in rice is a myth. The best thing to do in a situation like this is to get the device opened and dried out as quickly as possible. If there is any corrosion, this needs to be cleaned up to give the best change of saving the device.

Julia Navarro , The rice trick will do nothing to save your phone. Stop charging or powering up your device until the liquid damage is addressed correctly, as you could be shorting out components inside the phone. You really should take care of ASAP, the corrosion that is happening inside the phone from the water damage as that could be your problem. A tear down link for your device Link #1, disassembly guide will enable you to get inside the phone to remove the damage/corrosion caused by the liquid. Use the 2nd link as a guide/instruction on how to clean/repair the device from liquid damage. If not wanting to do repair yourself have a good local cell/computer repair shop have a look and estimate repair. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Thanks for your quick response (: I don't have the screwdrivers or the tools needed to open up the iPhone, since it did turn on for a couple of minutes do you think I should just take it to a repair shop and have someone open it for me or is that a waste of time/money ?

@julia9,Julia, The phone could be salvageable(no guarantee's), if not able to work on the device or have a friend do it, then yes take it into a good shop, have them take a look and estimate repair. Good luck.
