After rear camera replacement my side volume button is not working.
What should I look for when I open my phone up to repair the problem? It did not exist before I replaced the rear camera.

Somethin tells me you damaged the cable, while you were in there. The volume, mute and power button are all on the same cable. So even if two of these three things are still working, it makes sense that you damaged the cable, and now one of these things isn't working
