MacBook Pro Mid 2012 shuts down whilst using - replaced battery

Hi All,

A few months ago my MBP Pro would randomly switch off whilst I was using the laptop. I then took it to an authorised apple retailer who advised me that it was a battery fault and that it would need replacing to which I replaced the battery ( a friend of mine did this for me to avoid the costs.)

However, a few days after I am having the same problems. The MBP would randomly shut off whilst I'm browsing or try to open applications like photoshop. Sometimes it powers back on and most the times it would not respond to SMC or PRAM. A few times when the mac does switch back on it decides to switch back on when I'm trying to log in ( the progress bar freezes and the computer shuts down)The battery condition is also good.

I have checked first aid to run tests to see what the issue is but the same problem occurs. The only time I can use the macbook is if Im playing a video or if i don't do anything at all.

Could this be a logic board or hard drive issue?

Your answers would be really appreciated as I have no clue as to what is going on!

Thanks,

My MB Pro Retina did the same and I resolved (finally - after Apple failed and some 8 months of only using in Clamshell mode) in the end by cleaning the hall effect/reed switch or whatever Lid Proximity switch with contact cleaner. I posted a "question" that explains on this solution yesterday. I tried all the SMC and PRAM resets but problem was the pc thought the lid was closed

I think you'll need to run the built in diagnostics function in the system to get an idea whats happening.

After restarting the system and you here the Bong press and hold the D key once its run though the diagnostics save the output and paste it here for us to see.

Hi so I ran the Apple hardware test and it says no trouble found. I ran the perform extended testing too!

mmm... I think we'll need to use a different approach here to diagnose whats happening.

Lets look at the thermal sensors to see if the system is shutting down due to an overheating condition. I would use this great app: TG Pro for less than $20 its well worth it! Paste the main screen here so we can see after you've had it running for a day or two.

The other direction is to make a good backup on an external drive and reformat your drive and install a fresh OS install. Then be careful on what you install for Apps as one of them may have some malware or not removed completely when you updated it.

Ayeko, Did you run diagnostics and/or install TG Pro? If you did what did they show?
