Can you use Verizon on an AT&T iPhone 7 plus

How well does Verizon work on an unlocked AT&T iPhone 7 plus? I know the GSM iPhone 7 Plus does not officially support CDMA but I was told it still works. Is that correct and if so how well would verizon work on it?

A Verizon SIM should not work on an AT&T iPhone 7 Plus unless it is a factory unlocked phone. If you want to find out just pop in your Verizon SIM card, if it can connect to LTE then it works, and if it tells you no service then it doesn't work.

I agree with Robert, a GSM phone will not work on a CDMA network unless it is factory unlocked. There is some confusion as to what unlocked means. There is a couple of types of unlocked. There is factory unlocked which means that the phone will work with any carrier CDMA or GSM worldwide. Next there is carrier unlocked and that means the phone has been unlocked from the carrier and will work on one of the two types of networks. It will either work with all CDMA networks or all GSM networks but not both. Anyone buying a phone from eBay should get the IMEI number from the seller and check with their carrier to ensure that phone will work before you bid or buy. Hope this helped!

This is inaccurate. There is a chipset difference between the gsm at&t/T-Mobile iphone7 and the verizon /sprint cdma+gsm iPhone 7.

AT&T iPhone 7 is incompatible with Verizon. Even when factory unlocked.

That is what I stated. You are talking about a phone being Carrier Unlocked on any GSM or CDMA network but not both. A factory unlocked phone does exist. Actually Apple sells a factory unlocked iPhone including the 7 and has for some time that is compatible with any carrier. I know it exists because I had an iPhone 6 that I bought Unlocked from the Apple Store and activated it on Sprint to begin with then took it over to AT&T. Now how the chipset works and how they make the magic happen I do not know but what I do know is it what as easy as changing services and putting in the new sim chip.

You are correct an unlocked iPhone 7 At&t it will still work but it may not work very well. Here is an excerpt from the cNet article:

''Versions of Apple's new iPhone 7 geared for AT&T and T-Mobile networks reportedly use an Intel chip [modem] -- one that doesn't fully support older Verizon and Sprint network technology."

So it is not only the At&t's version but also T-Mobile's. The solution is to buy a worldwide model of iPhone 7 directly from Apple. But doe many of us it may be too late because people signed 2 year contracts with At&t . Taking all this into account, one may think twice about unlocking their phones which is very hard anyway. But instead, opt for one of the trade-in programs if they want to switch carriers.

i’ve been reading all of the posts above and still have no idea how these iphones work on different networks.

my daughter gave me her iPhone 7 plus which was with AT&T I brought it to Verizon (my plan is with them) and they tried to move my sim card to the AT&T phone and it would not work as a phone. (no calls, no texting)

Went to Verizon website logged into my account and check to see if the phone was compatible by entering the IMEI number and it was NOT compatible. So I guess it will never work on Verizon.

Am I correct?

According to the other responses and my understanding of iPhones and networks, your phone will work if you can get it factory unlocked. I'm having the same issue. I just bought an iPhone that was previously on AT&T and tried to switch it over to my Verison prepaid service and it will not work. So I'm going to see if I can either get it factory unlocked or just get a new plan with AT&T.

No it has nothing to do with unlocking. It will not work - period, - due to tech specs of the At&t model of iPhone 7.

this may be a bit late.. i would like to point out that iphone 5 and newer purchased through verizon are already unlocked and will work with any network across the globe. it doesnt matter if you are trying to use it on a CDMA or a GSM network since verizon uses both networks.

I have been using ATT for many years .. I used all models of iphone. When I switched to Verizon None of my iphone worked on Verizon network as GSM model doesnot support CDMA

Verizon Model of iPhone is Global model and can work with ATT / GSM service providers in world

Verizon Sim will only work with phone support CDMA

Verizon Phones support CDMA and GSM Or LTE so those can be used with all Networks.

I tried Motorola e4 Plus Verizon and Unlocked that with Company . It worked with GSM Network

So -- Though Verizon has LTE and SIM but cant be used in GSM phone.

I have a Verizon iPhone 6S, (Verizon iPhones haven’t been carrier locked since the 5). and I’m using my AT&T sim in it, and it DOES support their LTE speeds. Working great.

I also have a factory unlocked (new) GSM iPhone 7, and I’m using a Verizon sim in it, and it supports Verizon’s LTE network., and it also works great.

So, GSM (factory unlocked) and Verizon’s iPhones are interchangeable, and can use each other’s LTE towers.

I know because I’m using them both. So, Apple has dual CDMA/GSM antennas in their phones. I’m not sure if a carrier unlocked AT&T iPhone would work with a Verizon sim, but I have no reason to believe it wouldn’t.

At&t iphones if bought from at&t do not have CDMA chips. Verizon iphones have both CDMA and GSM chips. So if you buy unlocked from Apple or best buy you get the Verizon version for either carrier.

Get the CDMA and gsm version to have all the band's work on Verizon or you will have issues. AT&T gsm version will work on Verizon LTE bands only. But you will have issues.

Mine never worked. Only If /I buy iPhone with CDMA band in it... It is mentioned on apple website what models are compatible with Verizon.
