Ram will not work after being reseated

MacBook A1181 Early 2008

I have an early 2008 black MacBook. I took out the RAM, and put it back in later and now I get three beeps. The RAM works fine because it was working earlier and was original to the machine. When I take out the one problematic stick, the other works fine. Does anybody have any info that can help me?

Of course the three beeps means a RAM failure. Here's how to test:

Take the good stick only and put in in one slot and boot. Now move it to the other slot and boot.

This test both the RAM and the slot.

Now try it with the other stick.

If it fails in both slots, it is bad. You may have shocked it.

Occasionally a slot can go partially bad and will take a stick with less RAM on it.

If you only have one good slot and the good stick is not enough RAM you can upgrade to a stick with more RAM and live off one good slot.

Standard RAM: 1 GB Maximum RAM: 6 GB*

Details: 1 GB of RAM is installed as two 512 MB modules, no slots free.

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.

RAM Type: PC2-5300 DDR2 Min. RAM Speed: 667 MHz
