Hi, Are these calls from people you know? Are these people listed in your phone's Contacts app? If the caller is listed with their number in your phone's Contacts (or similarly named app) then when they call it should display their name on an i/c call. If they are not listed it should display the number of the caller. Not sure if the above is applicable to you though as it may vary as to where you are i.e. different countries and different phone service providers have different ways of doing things. Not certain if where you are that calling number display for mobile phones is a subscription service or not. Where I am (Aust) CND is standard on mobile services but subscription on landline services. Therefore if you have a CND capable landline phone unless you pay the subscription to the service provider you will always get unknown being displayed on an i/c call, but it shows the number on an i/c call on a mobile phone.

Contacts and number are on the phones contacts app, it was displaying the callers name and number but I think I accidentaly changed a setting somewhere and now all the calls come in as unknown. Would it help if I restore it to the factory setting...? But if I do that i'm gonna loose some info and apps...?

- de

Problem solved - contact your service provider and ask them to enable calls to be seen on your screen. Only they can do this.

What if it's only one particular contact not showing??

Hi,

If all your i/c calls are showing as unknown, contact your service provider and ask if there is a problem with your account (service?) as it may not be a problem in your phone.

If they say that there is no problem at their end and you have to do a reset do the following before you perform the reset.

Backup your phone using the phone's backup feature.

Fully charge the battery in the phone.

Reset using the phone's factory restore feature.

Once reset, check that you receive the number OK on an i/c call.

If so, restore the phone using the phone's restore feature.

Once restored, check to see if the i/c call number display is still working OK.

Hi @ Henk Strydom,

I did say to backup the phone first so that you would have "saved"all your data and downloaded apps etc, and then could have restored it back to what it was, using the backup, after you tested if it worked OK or not in factory default mode.

Back up phone then reset to factories restore if u did this would you not have anything left on your phone phone cause u backed up everything on the same phone I only have this oppo phone and all of a sudden the incoming calls came up as unknown all my incoming calls come up unknown how do I fix it so I can see who's calling me thanks

Hi @ Cheryl Beauman,

You don't backup the phone to itself.

You either back it up to the "cloud" or to a PC.

When you have done the factory restore, test that it works OK in factory default mode and then restore the phone to what it was before you did the factory restore by using the backup that you made earlier.

Done this multiple times have also changed phones and switched carriers, turned off all contacts in mail settings and yep NOTHING

You didn't describe your problem clearly and completely but I understood your problem. I had the same issue and was able to resolve it. If you also want to resolve it then go to the setting/application manager. Search for the phone on this list and click on it. After clicking select the clear data button.

If your problem is not resolved by these steps then I would suggest you to go through the reverse phone lookup services. With the help of this services, you can easily get all the details of the unknown caller. If you want to know more about this then just take a look at Asia missed call. Here you will know more steps to resolve this issue.

Thanks. Deleting all stored data in the dialer app solved the issue for me.

Maybe my problem was slightly different though. After an update to Android P all incoming calls would show the caller, but a pop-up dialogue window would appear asking me if I wanted to save the incoming number, very annoying as I couldn't accept the call until I closed the dialogue window.

Please note I do not use the stock dialer to handle outgoing calls.

Apparently, the stock dialer would display the identity of the caller just fine, but my custom dialer also monitors incoming calls and generated the annoying pop-up. Deleting the stored data on that dialer solved the issue. No data was lost in the process.

Thanks for the tip!

There is no “clear data” button, no “clear data” anything

I found clear data in Settings > Apps > Phone > Storage

If it’s not a problem with the phone, it could very well be trolls using *67 to cloak their number

The best way is not to answer and look up their number on White Pages to see if its been flagged as a scammer.

Not scammer.nos are saved in contact

Solved the problem. Local numbers show contact details perfectly. Any number which has an IDD country code prefixed shows only the number.

Hi dear … I had the same issue .. and resolved it in this way …. Go the assigned account (the email you have chosen) open the settings in the email ….click on (contacts ) …then the system will ask you to down load contacts …download it and it will work …but you have to down load it from the e-mailed itself

This only works if your contacts has their phone numbers otherwise it won't.

I have an OPPO phone and had the same Unknown Caller come up. A University students fixed the issue in seconds by downloading the TrueLocal app off Google Play onto my phone. The app version i am using is free. 90% of incoming calls, now show who is calling me. It also goes through my phone an adds the caller name on the phone numbers stored in my phone.

I had the same issue. Even calls from my own landline and close family were coming as "Unknown".
Finally fixed it by going to Settings>Network and Internet>Mobile Network.
There is an option "4G Calling - Use 4G services to improve voice and other communications (recommended)". This was ON, turn it OFF. Incoming calls should now have caller ID correctly displayed.
If that option is not present, another option nearby is "Preferred network type" it was "Automatic (4G/3G/2G)". An alternative fix is to change it to "Automatic (3G/2G)" instead.

Hi, I had a same issue, I called mobile provider but they couldn't solve this issue and I was suggested to use caller ID app but unfortunately it didn't work. Then I tried factory restore but I didn't recover. Finally, I decided to change my sim card, and it was what got me going! I think, you should try new sim card.
