Backlight circuit failing iPhone 6

Hi, have an iPhone 6 that had a dark patch on the top right hand side of the display. The phone worked ok. I checked the board and found that FL2024 was damaged. Looked like screwdriver damage. I went ahead and changed it but when I turned the phone back on L1503 blew. There was a puff of smoke and the top of it was expanded. I changed L1503 but the replacement also blew. Is there anything in particular that would be causing this?

Thank you

When the magic smoke escapes, you always have to ask yourself what caused it; a defective or physically damaged component, improperly spec'd or being driven by excess current?

Clearly your backlight circuit is being shorted by something downstream. It could be the backlight itself or one of the bypass capacitors on the line. Check the PP_LCM_BL_ANODE line to see if it is shorted to ground. Remove the blown components first. If that line is shorted, then look at the caps like C1505/C1530/C1531/C2017. If that looks good, then check the cathode side of things as well.

If there is no short, then try to plug in your logic board without the screen to see if the failure is consistent with the backlight itself or on the logic board.
