Why is my Xbox one Controller Messed up?

I have an Xbox one controller and i Put in the wire into the Controller, but at the top right of the menu it says that the mic is muted, I have checked my privacy settings and its fine, i restart my Xbox and controller. After This it still says that I'm muted, i don't have an adapter for my controller just the end of it. Any Suggestions?
