I would look under the 'notifications' tab in setting and see if maybe the option is turned off, I had a 3rd gen and it worked from day 1, the only thing is, is that it wont fully light up your display unlike the way that iPhones do.

OK, I found what you were talking about and that part is now working. But is there ANYTHING that will show up on the dark screen like if you missed a call/text and the phone is just laying on the table? I also have a 2nd Gen. that has a small flashing light that lets me know when I missed a call/text.
