Treadmill starts quickly but stops after 1-2 seconds

My Nordic Track C2200 treadmill accelerates to top speed and after 1-2 seconds stops. Tried changing speed but no difference. To get it to repeat I have to hit the stop button and then start(repeats and stops)

I have a Nordic Track a2105 with the exact same issue: it attempts to start at full blast, then stops after half a second. I replaced the motherboard with a refurbished one from PartSimple.com. The treadmill seemed to work again during the speed calibration process, but stopped working before I finished calibration. It smelled like I fried something on the board, but don't know for sure. It's back to the quick stop after starting. Maybe too much resistance from the motor that's past its prime?

I found the answer to this! I had the exact same problem and it was NOT related to the motor at all.

You will need to replace the main “controller board” for this unit (in my case part number MC2100WA for an e3800 model). The controller board is located in the same area as the motor and it’s incredibly easy to replace. You just take a few pictures to remember where everything is plugged into, unplug the wires, remove 2 screws, remove the board, install the new one in it’s place, and plug the wires back in. Voila, problem solved! Works like new now.

I previously replaced the speed sensor and magnet which didn’t change anything. It was the controller board all along.

Hopefully this will save others some money when you have the same problem of it starting up and running really fast even though you pressed “1” for speed, then stopping immediately. Now it starts up very slowly like it previously did and ramps up to the correct speed.

Hi,

Sounds like the motor control board has failed, shorting the motor drive switch, resulting in full speed at turn-on and possible breaker pops, fuse rips, and damaging current flows thru that motor. The lower board will be something like MC-2100 or such, available at resellers, repaired with a search for jatinah or treadmill analyzer. Good luck!

Possibility, still troubleshooting. I need to access the control board in this C2300 so I can see if it’s staying on or is flashing a code.

Only thing, mine doesn’t start full speed, starts normally and then stops, and I’m not sure the motor itself has a controller, need to find a good schematic.

Above, talking about control unit in upper part of unit; it has an LED that will stay on or flash to indicate codes.

Our treadmill has the same LED and ours stayed on solid, no blinking, while it fired up to full speed and then died immediately after. We could tell it was drawing a lot of electricity to do it as lights would dim when we hit "Start." So, no error code, not the motor, but the motor controller, or motherboard. We have seen companies charge a core fee that you get back when you return the old board. Guess they just fix 'em and ship them out again! Also saw someone online that took his board to an electronics shop and they fixed it there while he waited, and he took it home, put it back in, and it was fixed for very little cost.

@Susan Holt Did you ever get yours working again?

I had an issue with my treadmill it is a Nordictrack E3000 Model No NTL1795.0. I had it in storage for a while and then moved it. When I turned it on it started really fast, then stopped suddenly. I paid to have a tech come to my house. With in minutes, he said it was the motor and what I was experiencing was because part of the motor became de-magnetized. Several Motors on this treadmill have at least a 15 year warranty on them, some have a life time. He is going to replace that first. If that doesn't solve the issue, the next area would be the mother board may need to be replaced because it is not communicating correctly with the Motor. He said that would cost me between 2 to 3 hundred to replace.

Was a simple test performed with an external battery, connecting the motor to see if it actually works ?

I have a nordic T18.0 treadmill with similar issues. It runs for approx 1-2 seconds then stops running. I’ve checked the PCB and it flashes twice every 2 seconds once the treadmill stops. This indicates a loose cable, which I’ve checked and there’s nothing obvious. I think it’s possibly the PCB but don’t want to spend xxxs on parts when not 100% sure of the cause. Has anyone had this fault and how did they repair it?

Thanks

There could be several reasons your treadmill starts and stops after a few seconds. Here are a few things to check:

  1. Ensure the safety key is inserted correctly and seated in the console. The safety key is a safety feature that shuts off the treadmill if it is removed.
  2. Check the power cord and outlet to make sure they are functioning correctly. If the outlet is not getting power, the treadmill will not start.
  3. If the treadmill has a power switch, turn it on.
  4. If the treadmill has a reset button, try pressing it.
  5. If none of these steps fix the problem, the issue may be with the treadmill's motor or control board. These components can be challenging to troubleshoot and repair, so you may need to contact the manufacturer or professional repair service for assistance. (FQA HealthCare)
