My iPhone 5 a1429 wont turn on after screen replacement

So here's the thing. I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. I opted to fix it and replaced the screen along with a new battery following the steps from here. Voila it worked. I was happy with it but then I noticed that the earpiece was not working. So I opened it up again, tried to fix any lose connections from the earpiece. Before closing it all up, I turned it on just to see if the screen was working. I know that was a bad call right then and there because I know that shorts can occur by doing that. The phone turned on, but the touch screen was not working. I tried to turn it off again but since the screen wasnt working, I was not able to. Looking back I should have just disconnected the battery but it didnt cross my mind during that moment. Now I reseated all the cables to the board, and noticed that the screen was working again. So I slid the screen back to its place, but the display showed blurry white lines, then turned off. I tried turning it on again to no avail.

Now the phone wont turn on, not charging or anything, no sounds or vibrations or anything that would prompt me that it is alive.

Now each time i plug it in, the front cam and the earpiece heats up extremely. I dont know what is wrong.

I disassembled the phone and reassembled it again. I tried re cycling the power by disconnecting the battery and draining all leftover power in the phone by holding the power button. I tried soft resetting it using the hold power and home method. It doesnt work.

So what do you guys think should I do? Buy another screen? Im just afraid that it wont work the way it should.

I am quite new at this and I dont have any experience tearing down phones.

Any answer would be appreciated. Cheers.

Hi Carlo. Before buying any more parts, I would recommend that you inspect the connectors very carefully. Use a magnifying glass or even better a jeweler's loupe ([producto vinculado inexistente o deshabilitado: IF145-049]).

Those connectors are very delicate and are only rated for a dozen or insertions. They can probably last a lot longer but they do break very easily. All it takes is one bad pin to cause all kinds of problems (see attached picture, it's an iPad mini but has the same kind of damage).

You also want to inspect the area around the connectors as the small surface mount components sometimes get torn away (Pry Damage). If everything looks okay, you could try a known-good screen.

If you want to avoid the cost or hassle, look for a repair shop that can also do micro-soldering, that way they can help you wether it is a screen replacement or logic board problem.

Thanks for the detailed reply minho, I will surely try and inspect for any bad pins.

Do you have any deductions about what may be causing the heating up problem around the earpiece?

Cheers.

The heat is probably caused by excess current drawn. Probably related to your original problem (connector). If you found my answer helpful, please click on "Was this answer helpful? - Yes" on my original response.

Minho do you think this could be a bad board?

Is this the board from your original question or another one? It's hard to say based on this picture. The black plastic shield surrounding the connectors has certainly been probed and poked so I would lift it off and inspect the SMD components underneath. Everything must be done very delicately!

That is from the original question. Im afraid that I dont have enough experience with repairs to say that I am confident with my skill. I am near close to giving up this phone so I might as well give it a try. Does this site have a guide on how to do what you just suggested? If so, what should I search for? Thanks!
