cleaning solvent caused screen bad backlight

Hello !

My phone had a very low sound comes out of the earpiece speaker where i could barely hear any phone calls and i had to use either speaker or earphones to receive calls.

I did try to clean it using toothbrush and toothpick but got nothing and then i decided to use an electronic cleaning solvent and dust cleaner. I successfully managed to blow up and gently remove any dust/dirt from the mesh (it was totally blocked !) ...

unfortunately, the screen is damaged and the backlight is not working properly anymore ...

I did try the rice thing but it didn't work , what should i do?

The iphone is working pretty well and screen touch and all it is functionality as well ...

can someone please explain what happened?

As Brian said, it looks like liquid behind the backlight. You actually can change the backlight pretty easily if you are good with a tiny bit of soldering.

Buy one of those guys. You gently peel off the old backlight and desolder it. Then clean up all the junk that got on the underside of your screen and stick the new backlight on. Solder on the connector, put some tape over it and you are back in business.

Thanks a lot Josh !

so are u saying that there is no chance to sort of clean the old backlight and use it again? how about using a blacklight of another broken iphone ... the news ones would cost me a lot of money and i am not even able to purchase it online (i live in Libya )

In theory you could use the backlight off another display. I always manage to shred them when I'm peeling them off. There are a few layers to them and I can never manage to start at the right layer.

I don't think cleaning would be an option on this one. It looks like its pretty well flooded. I'm guessing you were pretty liberal with the cleaner?

i honestly thought that i was fairly gentle with it ...now i regret the whole thing :p

Thanks Josh

That solvent got behind your back light and damaged it. Never use any electronic spray or liquid without removing the screen. This can only be fixed by swapping out the entire screen with a new one.
