Messed up touch screen and sync

So I was using my Wii U gamepad as normal yesterday and it suddenly stopped responding. The system was still working but no inputs were being registered (touches etc). When I connected a Wii-mote and re-entered E-Shop, I noticed that the touches that I was doing on the gamepad weren't the same as what was being shown on screen and neither the buttons or the arrow keys work. Did I corrupt the OS? Or damage the gamepad?
