Laptop is completely dead

Hi all,

I replaced today my battery of my laptop. After I put the battery back into his place I started the laptop by shorting the contacts of the connector on the mb.

I plugged in the cable and the laptop started, for 3 seconds. The laptop is now dead. No lights if I push the power buttton or plugging the cable.

Did the fuse broke or something?

Thank you

Uas explain this "I started the laptop by shorting the contacts of the connector" a bit better? what connector? why would you shorten it out?

- de

I am not sure if it's called like that. But I pushed it with a small flathead screwdriver on the pins of the connecter because it was faster for me without putting back the whole front cover.

- de

You need to remove the battery and then remove the CMOS battery.. Wait a few minutes and then plug in the mains and see if the LED lights up.. If it does remove the mains and plug in the battery and see if it starts up.. Then put back the CMOS battery and it shoudl work normally..

Uas, Yes there could be a bad fuse. Re open laptop, recheck all connections, ribbon cables for pinched, damage, look over the mother board for and trouble spots, burns, bloated capacitors, etc., remove battery, hold power on button 60 sec's. Re insert battery, be sure it is seating properly and re assemble laptop. Press and hold power button to see how it is working. not sure if this link will show fuse location same a yours but check it out. Check the attached link, instruction and guide, Good luck

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Uas using "small flathead screwdriver on the pins of the connecter " sure sounds like you have shorted out your mother board. Which pins did you use? Any particular ones? Post some images of your motherboard with your querstion so we can try and see if there is obvious damage. Use this guidefor that. You also want to give us any identifying numbers on the board. That way we can at least try to find a schematic. Right now, from what you are describing, it sounds like a definitely short circuited component.

I added the photo's. One is the switch connector. Is the green one a fuse? And also the dc jack, but I used a multimeter and it shows 19v, so I think that one is not faulty.

- de

The green component is most likely a sensing resistor, not a fuse. Okay so your multimter confirmed that you have power going to the board but nothing happens which is even more suggestive of a shortened component.

- de

Okay, I can't see any visible damage to the board. When I plug the battery there is also no orange led turning on...

- de

Uas there are no schematics for your laptops motherboard. That will make trouble shooting extremely difficult. The only way would be to use your multimeter and trace the power.

- de

I measured the chips near the DC and I get about 19v so what can I conclude?
