Won't charge any battery but still powers on with a precharged battery

I have an iPhone 5 that I am not using any longer and was selling. Before I sold it I upgraded it to iOS 10, reset it and charged it up.

The lady that bought it from me told me that she could not get it to charge at all so I had her return it.

Sure enough, the phone would not recognize any charging cable.

I tried checking for lint in the charging port and found none. So, I put in a different battery that was already charged up. It started right up but still wouldn't charge.

I replaced the charging port and still not charging.

I'm at a loss now. Does anyone have a suggestion?

If it's logic board related, I do not feel capable of performing that level of repair but would like to know what to have someone check for me.

Thank you.

Probably logic board related. Most likely a cheap car charger or cheap charger was used that could have fried the U2 Tristar charging IC chip on the board. That in result would require that chip to be replaced (Board level).

Thank you. I saw a few posts about the U2 IC and was wondering if that could be the cause. The other people were still able to charge the battery as long as it wasn't completely discharged. That's why I thought it might be something else. Thanks again. I'll have it checked out.

can`t get into recovery or restore mode? tried hard reset?

The phone works fine as long as I insert a pre-charged battery. It does not recognize the lightning cable so it will not charge or connect to iTunes.

Is the lightning port clean an free of dust and dirt? tried another cable to connect to itunes? checked the area where the battery ic connected on the board for missing parts?

Before changing U2 I would try a new dock flex cable..is cheap..click it on the connector at the pcb/board to test..doesnt need to be installed at the case to test charging and itunes-connection..
