error 1002 on iPhone 3GS
iphone stay in restore mode.
the iphone goes in restore mode alone and don't want to be restored with an error 1002.

Error 1002 is a baseband error; the radio on your phone is broken and you will need to replace the main logic board.

I got that error suddenly while playing music. Apple replaced my 3GS under extended warranty. There appears to be a lot of incidences of this.
Looking at the Apple Technical Support article cited here - it seems that the only thinh they haven't blamed is the cheaply produced Chinese hardware sold expensively as an American product.
i agree with Rodger about getting error 1002 while listening to music. And also that this iPhone was assembled in China meaning it had cheap hardware....but am trying my best to restore it.
I do disagree with the statement "China meaning it had cheap hardware" but that is neither here nor there. Strictly philosophical....:-)

Okay so error 1002 is a baseband error. Either your baseband software is bad and you need to flash to the newest version, or the baseband hardware is shot. If your hardware is shot, guess you need a new logic board etc. But as I just researched some more on that issue I did find that Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 will bring a fix to iTunes "error 1002 & 37 which was mainly experienced by iPhone 3GS users while restoring iOS 4.3.1 custom IPSW coupled with iPad baseband 06.15.00." Anyhow, might be worth a try, not much to loose I suppose. If you are looking to download it or to get more info, it is here. Good Luck to everyone.

Its hardware problem and there is a little IC chip near flas IC named ATMEL 2SDF081 after replacing this IC u can restore it. This problem comes after 4.3.1 OS update. This is apple fault and not users or china manufactures. Hope this answer help . Goodluck ...

lol got same issue with my iphone 3gs. was trying to connecto my friend's wifi then suddenly it showed emergency call w/ different languages. then i had connected to itunes and have software updated to 4.3.3 before itunes is done "restore"-ing it it showed - cant be restored due to error 1002. i brought this to apple store and said since its out of warranty - 1 year and 3 months, they cant replace or repair it, the guy offered me for a re-assembled unit for $200. its seems if you get this error, your phone is dead and you need to buy a new 1 >.< fck apple, im going htc or samsunf better everything and cheaper, not a throw away phone
