Preguntas 132 Ver todo

Will this watch be able to play .acx files (audiobooks)

I've had a couple of runners call and ask me this about the new watch. I know the old watch could patch in via an iPhone but then the runner got out of range. Does anyone know if this problem has been resolved on the new watch?

Also is there a way to browse the apps before you buy the watch to evaluate its utility personally?

Update (06/14/2017)

Did Dick tracy have a camera in his watch?

@danj we'll I would expect Apple to buy them out quickly.

Now the question becomes, save up for the watch and camera or go for the new HomePod https://www.apple.com/homepod/?&muid=0ef...

@mayer - Had a chance to check out a beta HomePod. Sound is great! But... Its a bit big and the visual clue the unit is on is not that visible. I'm waiting to see what Amazon, Google as well as Sonos offer. I want something smaller like a Boom2 device. I don't have a problem having a two piece setup where you have a desk device and the woofer is on the floor.

Sorry @mayer I didn't see your posting before now.

The series 1 & 2 watch are both still very much tethered to your iPhone for any content with the current release of WatchOS.

What is coming in the fall in the new WatchOS (unless you get the Beta for both the phone & watch now) is the ability to download some songs and play lists to your watch. They didn't state if .acx files would work or not. That was presented in the presentation last week.

I would recommend they get onto the Beta program and add it to the comments they can post under it. That is by far the best way to get enhancements done.

@danj I appreciate the response. I don't do betas anymore, they are just to buggy. Twenty years ago I did when I was writing programs. But back then the betas were released to release developers and were meant for just polishing. Now they release them far to early to let the public do their work for them. Poor kids, wanting the latest thing, get them and put them on their primary drives and get totally screwed.

I have a Series 2 watch my self (which I do love). And I too don't do betas on my active gear. I was happy we can now get a few songs to fit as I like working out on the treadmill without all of the gear.

@danj I'm waiting for a camera in the watch before I get one ;-)

@mayer - Calling Dick Tracy, calling Dick Tracy ... ;-}

I don't think people will really use it for FaceTime calls, I could see it as a UPC/QRC code scanner though. Thats what I would want.

A full fledge camera will sap the limited power of the watch.
