Replacing the HDD, do I need a copy of the OS?

I have a Mac Mini that has a bad hard drive, I have already taken it apart and am ready to add the new hard drive. The only concern I have is getting the OS on the new hard drive. I have replaced a few hard drives on Macs before, but I don't recall if the OS is baked into the computer or not.

Will I need a disk or something of that nature to reload the OS?

Can you give us the exact model you have here. As some offer Internet Recovery, others not. Here's a write-up to review: About OS X Recovery

I don't have the computer in front of me, but it was indicating a internet option.

You may encounter problems here if you're not careful!

Your system may require a specific type of drive due to its age. Without knowing what your exact model is you could encounter problems just putting in any of the current drive offerings!

Do this: lookup your system by its serial number here: EveryMac - Lookup then past the given systems URL here for us to see what you have.

The OS is stored on the Hard Drive, you will need to reinstall it on the new one,
