Why is my iPhone not responding?

I use an iPhone 4s which is about 5 years old. Last night, around 2 am, my phone completely stopped responding. The screen is black, and there are absolutely no sounds coming from it. I have tried charging it, but that hasn't worked either.

What I suspect is an interrupted software update. I continually got notifications to update to iOS 9.3.5, and in my hurry might have opted to automatically update it at night if connected to power. I had no internet connectivity last night, and I also removed it from charge.

I have had some prior minor issues with the phone too, like overheating and drainage of batter, but I attributed those to the age of the phone.

My main concern is that I have some very important contact numbers in the phone, and like an idiot, I never backed it up to my computer.

I took the phone to the repair centre, and they said that there was nothing they could do. Their solution is to replace and buy another 4s, which I don't want to do. Any help at this point would be heavily appreciated.

Thanks

I don't trust what the repair center said. Sounds like they want to make you buy another iPhone 4s when a part can easily be replaced that does not cost much to get.

I don't know if they did something to the phone after opening it but try to hold the home + power button for 15 seconds and try turning the phone on again.

If that doesn't work try unplugging the battery and plug the charging cable in and see if the apple logo shows up. If it does, that's good because it means that the battery is most likely no good and needs to be replaced.

If it doesn't then the charging port most likely needs to be replaced.

Steps on how to unplug the battery are here:

Remplazo de la bateria del iPhone 4S

Note that you do not have to remove the battery in order to unplug it. Two tools will be required which are a pentalobe screwdriver (to take out the two back cover screws at the bottom) and a phillips head screwdriver (To unscrew the two screws located at the battery connector). Make sure you do not use a metal prying tool to unplug the battery or you may short out little components near the battery connector rendering the phone dead.
