Why can't I encrypt my phone?
I have tried to encrypt my Coolpad many times, but all that happens is the little green Android robot shows up and nothing else. I can minimize and close the screen with the robot and the phone continues to work normally. I always make sure the charger is plugged into the wall instead of my computer's USB and as few apps are running as possible. I have searched Google thoroughly and tried these things with no luck: making sure phone is in landscape mode, killing all but system apps, factory reset without installing anything including Google apps, changing from PIN to password, and some other things I don't recall.
I have read plenty of articles explaining in-depth how to encrypt an Android phone and they pretty much all have very similar instructions, but there are very few e explaining how to encrypt a phone that doesn't want to start the encryption process.
Can anyone help me?

I have followed Kurt's above steps religiously , but the encryption process never starts . I just continue to get the screen with the Android robot. The phone never restarts. I have let the phone sit for 3-4 hours on this screen and nothing happens.

Same here its android 4.4.4 im just curious as to whether your guys' coolpad 3300's are also a government sponsored phone or not. Mine is. Im thinking that might be why

I also have a GI smartphone which is a coolpad 3300A. I can confirm that this problem exists. I can't encrypt the phone even after letting the phone sit over night.
