Phone only recognizing headphone output

Recently had water damage to the top of my 5c. Screen had lines down it, ordered a replacement screen, also messed up my headphone jack somehow when opening it the first time around. Ordered a new headphone/charging port piece. Swapped this and the screen, all went well.

However now my phone stays in headphone output mode. Sometimes if I press down above the headphone jack on the screen it will switch back to the speaker output. What could be wrong here? is there a connector that could be loose? Do i need a replacement part? I lost a screw along the way, so the charging port is missing a screw but that functions fine.

This was the replacement jack i ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MAD...

Parts sold on Amazon and eBay are rarely reliable.

You have to rule out the possibility that the part you received is bad. Purchase a new one and try it instead of the one you have. No need to take the old one out of the housing.

Instead: power off phone; unplug battery; unplug charging dock; overlay new one and plug it instead; plug battery back; start phone and test. If your issue is solved, repeat above steps but this time replace charging dock.

Here's the replacement guide for the charging port. It also has links to the needed tools and parts.

Don't waste anymore time and money buying cheap parts, specially charging ports which perform many functions: charging, home button, mic, headphones jack, antenna. Get cheap parts and any or all of those can malfunction. Get a charging port from reputable sellers. My favorite for the USA is without doubt iFixit themselves since they offer high quality parts and they back them with a solid warranty.

In addition, there is inherent risk with every phone teardown and repair. Thus every time you use cheap parts and have to repeat the repair, you not only waste hours troubleshooting, but also add variables and risk to your phone to save $10-$20. Do the math.

I figured for 5 bucks and the volatility of the part I would have issues. Considering the phone is 2 years old and I can at least play music to headphones I'll probably just suck it up before risking doing damage to the phone attempting more repairs. Thanks so much for your reply. If It drives me up the wall I'll order the part off iFixIt for $25.
