I have upgraded my Mac mini T1200 1.5GHz Core Solo to a T7400 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo with absolutely no issues. The new processor runs a little hotter than the original. Mine has been stable with the upgrade for over two years.

Yes, Mayer, that will also work fine. I have upgraded two 2006 1.83GHz 17" Core Duo iMacs to 2.16GHz T7400 Core 2 Duos with no issues. The performance increase is significant. The performance difference between the 1.5GHz Core Solo and the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo is out of the park.

So far it'd doing fine. Here's the actual benchmarks of before and after: Core Duo CPU upgrade to Core 2 Duo CPU?

I think you can. All the way up to a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo T7600. I upgraded my Core duo 1.83 to a Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz.

That was a simple upgrade within the same model.

But isn't the Core Solo within the same A1176 Model line? I think it is. Just look on Ebay for the following processor numbers: T5600 Core 2 Duo 1.83, T7200 Core 2 Duo 2.0, T7400 Core 2 duo 2.16 and the aformentioned T7600. Just follow the guides in here for CPU replacement and you should be in luck.

I upgraded a Core Solo 1.5GHz with a T7600 Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz. The guide here on ifixit is well done, and along with the notes on each step, it was all I needed to do the work.

I would say having the proper tools helps a lot. Who knew a spudger was so important :)

This answer may be incorrect. I'm going to try upgrading a 1.83 GHz Core Duo tomorrow to a T7400 2.16 Core 2 Duo. Will also be running xbench to tell if it's worth the trouble.

The upgrade worked great.

To who ever downvoted this with no explanation. Some answers change as more knowledge is gained. RAM configurations, hard drive sizes and upgrades all do. We live and learn and advance. My original answer was correct when given and changed as time went by. Which part of the answer should I change to suit you? Which part are you downvoting?
