Runs rough when temp sesor is plugged in

I have a 1988 Chevy k1500 with a 5.7 350, upon first start up you have to have the temp sensor plugged in otherwise it will spit and sputter, and run like crap. After ten minutes or so, you have to unplug the temp sensor, otherwise it will run like crap spitting and sputtering. I have replaced the plugs, knock sensor, the ESC module, both temp sensors, also replaced the tank, sending unit, pump, and fuel filter. Next on the list will be the plug wires, cap and rotor, after that I'm not really sure what it could be, any help will be much appreciated.

How did this start happening? Like what were you doing? Lots of times nothing you did caused it, just a bad part(s). Did you buy it that way? Just clues to the puzzle.

Odb 1 doesn't always throw a code when it's a small flux.

Does it throw a code? If not then:

Check your - vacuum lines, egr valve, o2.

*If vacuum lines show any wear then check them (careful they are fragile)

*Clogged egr happens but no very often, or even stuck open.

  • test the ohms on the o2 sensor wire.

I would also test the sensors you replaced especially if you bought off brand, not common but they can just be bad.

It could be your catalytic converter.

Pretty sure you have TBI. Before you put plug, wires, etc... try the fuel pressure regulator rebuild kit. It's about 40 bucks and takes about an hour to an hour and a half to do. The diaphragm gets dried out and rusted (it's part metal) and can make it idle rough enough to die. There are a few videos on you tube for guidance. Common problem with TBI.

There is two different temp sensors, one runs the gauge or dash light. The other one is how the engine controller receives its info. It will throw the fuel trim of so bad the car will run like crap and dump a lot of gas. My name is TJ
