Wifi still broken after antenna replacement

Hi. I've been having troubles with my 4S for some time now… First, the headphone jack was broken and it only worked in stereo in one specific position, then the battery got weaker and in January or so, my Wifi stopped working.

I could get around the battery and headphone issues, but the no-Wifi bugged me. I went to the Apple store and they didn't even try to do anything, just told me the antennas might be broken and they can offer me a replacement unit for 300€.

I decided not to do it, and after a couple of weeks, my wifi started working again. Mysterious, I know, but I was happy.

Then, a couple of weeks back, it stopped working again. I can enable and disable it just fine, not grayed out.

After I dropped it and my rear case broke, I decided to order some parts. New battery, new headphone jack and new upper antenna. Today, I changed all the parts, was a little worried I might not get it back together, but after two hours of tedious work, I did.

Switched it on, worked immediately, tested the headphone jack - success.

Then I switched on the Wifi, but same as before - it won't find any network.

I tried to reset the network settings, but still - nothing.

If it's not grayed out, I assume it has some sort of connection to the antenna. Seems like the antenna wasn't broken either, so is there anything else I missed?

That is because apple does not do any repairs on iPhones and only give out out-of-warranty or in warranty replacements. Basically if you get a replacement, they sometimes use your old phone to refurbish it (get it back to working and new condition).

The only thing I can think of is an antenna not plugged in / mounted properly or something not screwed in properly but this is most likely not the case.

You could do a software update and see if the Wi-Fi can still be enabled after that. If you can't enable Wifi after doing an iOS / System software update then the Wifi ic chip could most likely be at fault.

Hi,

Sometimes a typical "Greyed out wifi" problem doesn't mean that the WiFi button is actually greyed out. If you can't find ANY networks, it's always worth a try. Give it a google how to solve a greyed out wifi, it's easier than you think

Contact me on twitter (@mxmdwt) if you have any problems. :)
