Sim tray won't fully insert

I have a iPhone 6 Plus with a broken screen I haven't replaced it yet as the sim tray won't fully insert and the phone wont recognize the sim card. It gets almost fully in but sits maybe half a millimeter proud of the side of the phone housing. I thought the sim tray might be bent so borrowed my friends sim tray and that too will not fully seat in the phone. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have to open the phone to replace the display anyway. If the internal part of the sim slot is broken can this easily be replaced or would it involve soldering?

I think there’s something in my tray where it won’t close

No, none of these things. Also this was from last year. That guy is never gonna come back. At least not for this answer. For the sake of people keep reading this post. Remove the pentelope screws. Likely, gently, push down on the logic board until the sim tray fully goes in. Don't try to bend the phone with the logic board in, as it will likely damage the logic board, and cause further problems. If you want to bend the frame. Here's a guide. Remove the logic board, then bend, then replace logic board. This is a big repair if you don't do this all the time

The tray will go in, but when I add the sim card it won't. A message appeared saying no sim card. I once "fixed" that by taking the tray and repositioning the card. No luck this time.

The sim slot itself is soldered to the board but this most likely isn't the case. Hold the phone level and see if it's bent (very common with this model). If the phone is bent near the sim slot simply bending it back should allow you to slide it in all the way.

I have the same problem I saw a post that said a screw fell inside. Took it out and it was fixed. I am going to check mine to see if that's the case. Will keep you posted.

How did you go? I can see something loose on my old IPhone 6 too. Sim & sim holder are ok but something is obstructing them from inserting the final 5% of the way in.

The obstruction is a tiny piece of metal (looks gold colour but could be wrong) a bit near the hole on inside

I just fixed my 6s Plus camera now my tray won’t go in. I was really frustrated when I couldn’t find my 1.3 screw but now I think I know where to look...lol. Thanks!:)

i had same issue, used magnifier, could see in the slot with good light the screw thread! So i slightly levered the metalwork (with care) of the tray and tapped the phone sideways on a hard table top, and out it popped. Perfect, my tray now fits all the way in, pesky screw!. I re-worked the metalwork of the sim tray ever so slightly to ensure that it was not raised upwards after my gentle leverage used to get the screw out. I then re-inserted teh sim card and turned on, all worked well

I just fixed my iPhone 5S. It happened quiet a long time all of a sudden. Assuming opening the phone can help to see the problem & fix it but since I'm not an expert. I tried to fix it with every possible method I read on the internet (including this site). Later, I saw this comment & tried to look inside the sim slot of the iPhone 5S using the flash light of my XS Max, but the light is not sufficient at it spread the light over a large area but I need a light that can focus on a small area but later thought about holding it a bit far then finally I could successfully able to see inside (no magnifier used) and saw that gold color like thing, probably a screw, I tried very hard to pull it out with the sim unlock pin provided with the phone but failed. Then after many try I continuously pushed it even harder and bumped on my bed and found broken pieces of glass. Initially, I thought I might have broke the phone and did worse but later I found that the sim tray now goes in and the sim is detected like before.

When sim is 90% in, gently apply pressure with one finger to right side then the left side and repeat

My sim card will not enter my I phone. The tray enters but when I place the sim card on the tray, as well as I can, the tray refuses to completely enter. Gordon Bradley
