The water dispenser on my GE side-by-side refrigerator is not working

Hello -

I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator. The water dispenser stopped working. It still makes ice, but nothing happens when you press the dispenser for water or ice. It doesn't even make the humming sound.

We have had problems before with the line freezing, and we have solved that with a hair dryer. However, this problem seems different because it doesn't even make the humming sound.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Thank you in advance.

I have this problem also, but my GE side by side refrigerator ice/water dispenser randomly stops working. I have replaced the dispenser control panel and the dispenser lever switch, but neither resolved the problem. At times, the green selection light for water, crushed ice, ice cubes, etc. just disappears and then re-appears later. I am assuming this is an electrical problem somewhere, but I don't know what else to check.

Michelle lee. A sticking door switch can cause this. Check both door switches. One could be sticking, the dispensers won’t work if the door is open.

Brett Watson- sounds like the water inlet valve failed. The water valve is behind the refrigerator. It’s what your home water line is connected to. Unplug unit turn off water. Remove the water line and 2 1/4” screws hold valve in place. Remember what wires go where- I take pics to be sure. If you have a multimeter you can check resistance/ continuity on each coil. If they test good then it’s either in the dispenser switch of frozen line. Access the switch by gently prying the trim around dispenser off then remove panel. Take pics. Usually it’s the valve that’s bad if your not hearing it energize. Hope this helps.
