So I dropped my 3DS from a shelf. After further inspection I discovered the top screen was just black and the bottom screen was also black with these white vertical lines. However, sound can still be heard from it and I can still move around the home menu and start up apps. Any suggestions for fixing it? Also there are no cracks on any of the screens either.

Hey Sean, you should replace the bottom screen of the 3DS XL. Replacing the bottom screen should allow the top to work as well. You can follow the teardown guide to replace the bottom LCD. You can purchase the bottom LCD here.

Is it possible that maybe something internal is what's messing it up or just the screen itself?
I think its just the bottom screen that needs replacement. This seems to be the solution and has worked:
