Preguntas 382 Ver todo

Display issue, screen turning on for a while, then goes black.

Further down the road since I originally posted this;

I opened the computer, installed a new HDD, vacuumed out all kinds of dust and unplugged the vents, both by the blowers and also air intake at the bottom.

Now the screen stays on longer, sometimes even for a whole hour. But it still does shut down intermittently. I did the flash light shining into the screen, and indeed, my stuff is still there, but very dark. Any informed guess at what this means?

Take a flashlight and shine it into the display at a sharp angle can you see the desktop icons? If you do then you know the issue is within the displays backlight circuit. Let us know your results.

Thank you Dan again. It turns out that I will await my new HDD, and install it properly. The p.o. just told me that he did not re-connect all the leads after removing his old HDD. So I will come back and report on the display once I reconnect all of them. I hope I did not do any damage trying to boot it with the connectors loose. The reving fans are now explained as well...

@jurgen - Checkout this answer I suspect you are having the same issue: Screen backlight goes out randomly.. But your system is a little bit older. Here is the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390 LED Driver Board Replacement. The here's the part you'll need: LED Backlight Board, Apple P/N 661-5537

Thank you Dan. I see that the LED boards are readily available on Ebay. I will go this route and let you know if it helps.

Dan, I see many LED driver boards on Ebay. The P/N numbers seem to be different than the one you pointed out for my model: EMC 2390 A1312 i3 3.2GHz Mac11.3 I found this to be frequently listed as 661-5311 V267-601HF for a A1312 . Will that be the right one? Or perhaps I need to open her up and look inside to find the right board number?

I did not have any more "blackouts" for a few weeks now. After the vacuuming and installing the fan control software, it became happier. Then I even went the extra step and told my new Macs Fan Control to keep the ambient temp around 26 C and it does it. Never shut down again since
