Why is my iPhone not charging?

Here's my problem:

I connected a 3.5mm (audio) cable to my iPhone 5s while it was playing music and it did not turn off the loudspeaker. Tried it with iPhone earbuds as well and the Headphone jack isn't working with that either (music keeps playing over loudspeaker).

Later that day the iPhone battery died (seemed to have emptied quite fast too) and when I tried charging it later nothing happened (I'm sure the charging cable works).

As Headphone jack and Lightning connector are the same part (dock connector), I tried replacing that part but it was to no avail; still not charging/turning on.

When I first plugged it in after replacing the part I did hear a ticking noise coming out of the loudspeaker but it does not do that anymore now.

Left it at the charger for over an hour, just to be sure.

Any idea what it could be? I'm fine with opening up the iPhone and replacing other parts.

For future reference:

Apparently something on the logic board is causing the battery to drain quickly. This killed my current battery. So in order to fix this, the logic board has to be replaced or fixed and the battery has to be replaced.

I am going to replace the battery myself (€13) and let an iPhone repair company fix the logic board (€120).

This way I can keep my original logic board and my Touch ID will keep working as well (Touch ID only works with the logic board it came with).

if you already change the charge flex check very carefully the conector in the mainboard looking for any damage and try whit another flex.

Thanks for your comment, I'll try taking a look at the lightning connector socket to see if it is damaged.

No visible damage to the lightning socket (here's a picture of it http://i.imgur.com/pCjbdUc.jpg )

Already tried replacing the flex cable (as part of the dock connector) so don't think doing that again will help

I'll take another look at it this evening. If it is the lightning/battery socket that's damaged, do I need to replace the entire logic board to fix it?

unfortunately yes
