Data Recovery from Divorced Fusion Drive

Today, my iMac 27 inch came back from the Apple Store with a new hard drive in it. The iMac went to the Apple store for video card repair. To my surprise, the fusion Drive was replaced. I didn't even know I had fusion Drive feature! I managed to get my old 3.5" hard drive back. I guess the drive had one bad sector or something.

Here's where the problem comes in, my old one terabyte drive was fusion as well. When I plug the drive into disk utility, The name is red, and the only way to"fix"the drive is to format it. I try to reunite the drive with the fusion inside, but because fusion has been configured to a new hard drive, I cannot rejoin the two without formatting.

So, the short version: is there a way to communicate with a hard drive that was previously participating in a fusion configuration? I feel like the only options available are destructive.

Welcome to the "Wonderful World of Apple Repair". Never send Apple a disk with non-backed up data. They don't care and don't call you before destroying it. Always use a backup external drive. I don't trust the cloud yet nor do I want to pay for that much external storage. If you send a machine in for a depot repair drop in a failed hard drive, from that stack you have of failed Apple drives. Try to install a drive that was available for that model.

Keep up to date on all Repair Extension Programs. Search, a lot are not published. Here's some they will tell you about:

There are many others they don't tell you about even if it has been sent in for a depot repair. Those are generally the result of Class Action law suits. The problem is they generally cover only the first four years from the date of purchase. But the Apple legal team keeps it litigation for three years so there is only a one year window, then you're SOL. Case in point, here's the program on the 2011-13 MBP:

You have until Feb. 27, 2016, or three years from the date of purchase, to redeem the offer.

This program was only announced in Feb of 2015,

Remember the company is no longer being run by a great innovative man, but by a corporate greedy SOB who pulled in $100,000,000 into his pocket in 2014. .............just imagine what that does to the curve of equal pay for women! Just the CEOs of the Fortune 500 companies probably make as much as a million women in the work force. "The average S&P 500 company CEO made 373 times the salary of the average production and non-supervisory worker in 2014, up from 331 times in 2013, according to the AFL-CIO.

Tim Cook is a practiced lier, he hid for 54 years and finally came out after he became CEO of Apple:

What do you do with that kind of money? Run for President or control elections?

"I don't want to get off on a rant here" but..........I have.

"Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong",

I also have failed fusion drive. my mac mini can’t see the drive and I can’t boot into mac os. Any solutions to this? I already take both of the logical drive from my mac.

If I use stellar or UFS, do I connect both of these fusion drive to new mac or pc and run Stellar or UFS Explorer?

UFS explorer can help you.

Or try "reclaime PRO"

Or try "PC3000 RAID Edition".

Or if it not works - send it to me.

Are these software titles still the recommended ones? I’m out trying to do a recovery on both the drives in conjunction with one another? Or am I trying to do a Recovery on just the failed HDD?

Any help is appreciated here.

I have a late 2013 iMac with a fusion Drive comprised of a blade style SSD and the 3 TB HDD.

@wellconnected - Sadly there is still no tools other than Apples Disk Utilities to recover APFS volumes. So if you have High Sierra or newer (likely) you're SOL!
