Sorry...

You've probably already addressed the issue, so this is more for others:

If you're looking to disable one of the DP/DC "processors," you can install processor.prefPane (it installs automatically to system prefs) by:

1. Insert Mac OS X disc (can also access this via mounting 10.5.7 pkg update or later). On the Mac OS disc, click on "optional installs" and install XCode.pkg.

2. Open "Developer" Folder under Main HDD Menu... open "extras" and then submenu item "PreferencePanes".

3. Look for processor.prefPane and drag that file (10.5.7 or later) to System/Library/PreferencePanes. Once installed, you can click on Sys Preference and there should be a new preference pane item called "processor". Click on it, and there are options to select dual or single processors, a processor visual palette window, and a "nap option nullify".

NOTE: In <= 10.5.6, you could just double click the prefPane when you found it in the developer folder.

Cheers

Depending on the model, in Early Dual processor Models, you could remove one of the Processors's if you think theres something wrong with it. Some models have dual, or Quad Processors all mounted to a block. so removing one is impossible.

on another note, the processor is probably the last thing to be bad on a Powermac G5. test more obvious reasons for a machine locking up, RAM, Hard drive, or Software Problems.

or, you could try re-seating the CPU, that will resolve any eerrors caused by a bad connection from the CPU to the logic board, also known to cause freezes, lockups, etc.
