Replacing 30-pin connector on an iPod

My 60GB iPod Photo/Color has a seriously damaged 30-pin connector. Can it be replaced with a connector taken from a monochromatic 20GB HP-Ipod?

It requires some good soldering and/or hot air skills to replace a 30 pin connector. I see some listings for iPod Classic dock connectors on eBay, not specifically for the iPod Photo though, so you would want to verify that they are compatible. If you're not comfortable with micro soldering, you may want to have someone do this for you, as you could do permanent damage to the logic board.

I already have someone that does the soldering for me. What I want to know is if the 30-pin connector from a A1059 model could be compatible with the A1099 model? Because they're both 4th gen but they share only a few similarities.

ok, well I don't have direct experience with that situation, but I would think it likely that they would be compatible, as it is still the same generation, and it uses the same connector, and has a similar logic board layout. I don't see a reason for apple to redesign that part within the same gen.
