Home button unresponsive after screen replacement

I replaced my screen and LCD and beforehand my home button worked perfectly fine but now it is unresponsive. Do I have to order a new home button and replace that as well or can I make the current one work? I cannot just use assisted touch because I am trading my phone up and they will only take it if my home button is working correctly.

The way the home button on the iPhone 5 connects is via two gold circle contact pads that are located on the small cable that comes off the home button and sticks to the display. Those two little circles connect with some pins towards the bottom of the iPhone itself. Make sure to check that the cable and connections on the phone aren't damaged and that the pins on the phone aren't bent and are still there. Often times when opening up the phone, depending on how you do it, you may end up bending/damaging one of those pins because of their location. If you damaged the pins then you will need to replace the lightning dock connector cable, if you damaged something on the home button then that's what you'd need to replace.

Hopefully that makes sense, let me know if you need any clarification.

You may need a new home button. However, you may need to check the contacts on the lightning dock first. Make sure that they're seated properly, and not damaged
