Not able to use my ADF scanner. Does not feed nor does the light come on indicating anything in feeder. Wondering if the sensor is the issue, but not able to find. I do not have a jam, or paper stuck. Very clean. Any help would be grateful.

Hi Kath,
Try the following:
1. go to Menu >settings scroll down to "Restore Default Settings"
2. press Ok, select restore all but WiFi and Fax Settings, press Ok
If that doesn't work, using the following picture as a guide, I am not sure as I'm not familiar with your particular model but if you look into the paper feeder (#2 in the picture) you may be able to see the sensors in there. In my printer they are spring loaded switches that are pushed up when the paper is inserted.

Thanks, Kath. The scanner/copy lamp on my Epson WorkForce WF-3640 would not come on. I "Restored Default Settings" (all but WfFi and Fax) as you suggested and that solved the problem!
I have just restored to default settings 2 times and it's still not working. Light won't come on. I've checked thoroughly and no paper jams. Any other suggestions? Cindy
I was having the same issue and restored and it didn't seem too work but kept messing around with it and if your refer to the picture above provided by jayeff and lift up the ADF cover and sit the papers directly onto the paper feeder and then close the cover and then scan it should then be able to start to grab the papers at vs just inserting them in with the cover closed, it worked for me.
I restored the default settings on my WF-2750 and now the document feed works. I called Epson hot line and the rep just to,d me to take it off the ADF and put it on the glass. I asked him wasn’t the ADF supposed to work and he said only for scanning, which makes no sense at all. I held ten minutes to get that advice. That is why I came to this site, thankfully.

I have puzzled over this issue for awhile trying all the above. And then I took a pen and gently inserted it into the small rectangular access hole with the little white “arm” in it. Move it forward a bit until you see and hear it pop undone. This little arm engages the white drive gear an inch or so in front of it which in turn drives the paper roller shafts built into the top door of the ADF. Good luck!

Im not certain where the little arm might be (or of it has one) for the WF 2540, my printer is the WF 3640. sorry
This WF-3640 printer is about 5 years old and the ADF has never worked until now. THANK YOU
Excellent tip!!!! I had a wf-3640 given me and I was able to fix the firmware but up to now the ADF was a non-starter always showed "paper jam" every time I attempted to use ADF. Now it works perfectly and I setup a couple of presets one for duplexed letter size and one for single-sided letter size copying. Thanks this made my day!!!!

This photo refers to the ADF fix added by @artfullservent 1/29/2019 Hopefully this gives a little better context of how to find the part that needs to be shifted to get ADF “back in gear”. Pictured printer is Epson WF-3640 with ADF lid open. I suspect this pops loose when scanning thick paper media that overloads the mechanism or something similar and apparently is common to multiple models of WF range epson ink jet printers. Thanks for the suggestion Brian!

Hi
Does scanning work when you use the PC Epson Scan software, from the printer control or neither? Does the scan option work using the platen glass?

Hi! Yes my scanner works from flatbed but not auto feed.

I have the same issue. Also, the Epson Scan software does not recognize the printer connected at all. So that solution can not be tested. Flatbed scanning with the device control panel worked fine and automatically discovered the PC's in the house. ADF is what is totally dead.

Flatbed scanning with the software worked fine and automatically discovered the Mac in the house. ADF i scanner dead is what is totally dead. It sees my PC will not scan using scan controls on printer or software on computer.

I have had no trouble printing but when I try to use the ADF to copy multiple documents, it tells me to place the documents on the glass, what good is the ADF? My instructions read as if I can use it.
