Hi,

I'm sorry to say but I have the same problem. My tv is only 1&1/2 years old so I called Vizio direct! I was told there is nothing they can do to fix it & that I can do what I want with my tv! Then they tried to sell me a discounted tv that they have! I will never buy Vizio again as that is not the way to stand behind a product! I hope you have better luck.

- de

They did the same with me.. the original tv went bad.they replaced as it was under warranty...tv they sent me was used in a guest bedroom so very low hours on it..goes out..called vizio same response told me it was not fixable...tried to sell me a reconditioned tv...im with you will never buy vizio again...

- de

Same thing purchase a 70-inch just went blank. Called vizio said there was nothing they could do. No matter how cheap I will never but a another

- de

We JUST NOW had this happen. We tried all the hints and nothing worked. Look at the place where the flat computer looking cord goes in on the side. Our tv said 3 and 4. We chose 4. Finally we got the original remote, pressed input and a menu popped up. We scrolled to the same 4 and bam! It worked. Hope this helps someone else

Vincent Lyon, you have not told us what you have checked. The no video issue can be related to a bad backlight inverter circuitry. A simple check for that would be to darken the room and turn the TV on. Then use a flashlight and angle the light at the screen on different areas. you might make out some shadows or see s slight grey color. Your model uses an backlight circuit on the power supply board. So replacing that should repair your TV. The board is relatively inexpensive and available at places like this.

I have a model E47OVL . It powers on and has back light. I'm not sure what part I need nor do I know where to order it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

- de

and why would you have to do that if the tv is only 1-2 years old? Mine did the same thing after the panel started going out. Visio is a piece of SH?T

- de

I had the same problem, sound but no picture 55' vizio model, e550i0-b2. Problem was led light(s). Replaced all, works good aS new

My Vizio E550i-b2 has the same problem, black screen with sound. I was planning to order a complete TV repair parts kit from ShopJimmy.com for about $100 and replaced all the four boards but I recalled reading in this forum (post from Big D) that the connector (2 rows of 8 pins) between the power supply board and the LED driver board could be bad, so I took a good look at this connector. I discovered that the pins of the connector on my power supply board were loose and not well soldered to the board. I re-soldered these 16 pins and this fix my problem. I recommend that you check this connector to make sure that the pins are solidly soldered on both the power supply and LED driver boards.

- de

Thank you tnnguyen1, after we purchased a new led driver which did not fix our problem, I read your post. My husband re-soldered the pins and our TV now works!

No picture -just sound. If picture is visible when you hold flashlight against screen then...

Check CN 202 (plug connector) on power board for hair line cracks. Remove the board and look on the bottom. Resolder the pins and it's fixed... At least that was the issue with mine

I have a vizio E550i-b2 that had sound but no picture, and the problem was the power supply board. But I didn't have to buy the part. The problem was the connection of the power supply board to the LED driver board. The connecter on the power supply board had become unsoldered, I simply resoldered the connection and the screen works perfect. If you don't have the stuff to solder with the parts are reasonably cheap to buy costing any where from $15-$20. Hope this this helps guys.

I have a 60" Vizio LED E550i- B2

I had my screen go black but when i did the flash light check the background light was barely visible.

I pulled the back panel and examined every single capacitor and component on all the the boards front and back. Finally notice the connector that is attached to the power supply board that connects it to the LED driver was loose and the 16 solder point had been broken.

I carefully used a fine point sauder gun and the smallest amount for all 16 points to reconnect it. Hooked it back up and i was back to playing xbox.

Saved myself the money on having it repaired/ buying a new tv. Which aint cheap.

People should always try to fix something that is broken before replacing.

- de

I had the same problem and did the same fix. Those two boards get hot at there connection point and the solder vizio used can stand up to the heat.

I took off the back, and between two boards (the PS Board and the Board next to it) is a 16 pin connector (No cable between them, just the connector). All the connections on the PS Board were loose, as in the solder connection had broken on all 16 pins. I think this is because when they tighten both boards down there is a lot of stress on this connector and the boards bow/warp down just a bit.

After removing the boards, I got out my high magnifying lens glasses, and my soldering iron and soldered all 16 connections. When I reassembled, I made sure that there was little to no pressure on this connection, by leaving the surrounding screws a bit loose .... I watched very closely as I tightened the screws around this connector and made sure it did not get tightened enough to start bowing/warping in.

Works like a champ.

The picture will come on then go black within 5 minutes.

- de

Is this something that someone with no electronics experience can do? My picture would go out periodically, but always come back the next day. Now it has not come back at all going on 3 days straight. It's a really great TV to listen to (sarcasm font needed).

- de

Hi @ Crystal Dougherty.

Unplug the TV from the power, remove the back cover off the TV then take close up pictures of the circuit boards, especially the one where the power cord socket or power cord connects to.

Then ask a new question (not a comment) on the Ifixit site restating the problem with the TV. Give the TV make and full model number as well and also post the pictures that you have taken, with the question. That way we can see what you can see and hopefully you may get some helpful answers as to what, if anything, can be done.

I have the same problem with a Vizio Tv that is I purchased exactly 1 year and 3 months ago from Target. Black screen, but perfect sound. A cable tech came out today and confirmed it is a problem w/the TV. Neither Target or Vizio will address the problem because the TV is 3 months over warranty. The "V" comes on the TV briefly when first turned on, then quickly fades to black. Nothing works to fix this. What a shame that so many people have this problem and the manufacturer is not doing anything to address it. I am going to write a letter of complaint to Vizio andTarget. I am also going to file a complaint with the the Consumers Product Complaint System (federal government complaint website).

See Big D's post from April, 2016. It fixed our tv! My husband did it in less than 30 minutes!

I have the same model, e550-b2, 55" version. Exact same problem - has audio, but no video. I fixed mine by following this YouTube video:

https://youtu.be/NKdSrAH8_hs

Turns out I have the exact same root problem: the connector on the power supply board that's connecting to the driver board became loose, because the soldered iron broke off. I followed the video, removing the back board, took out the power supply board, re-solder the iron, and TV came back alive!

If this is also your problem, it's an easy fix. Took me 30 minutes and I'm no handyman at all.

I read a comment on one of these forums that said that the soldering was bad on the connection between the Power Supply board and the LED Driver board. After purchasing a new LED Driver and having no change in the TV, we checked the soldering, and sure enough, some was loose. My husband re-soldered the connections and our TV works again!

Most likely you have a bad led or

Leds in the panel. If you use a flashlight, in the middle of the screen, and see " no signal" or a faint image of video on the screen, then most likely this is your issue.

Luckily the boards are cheap on eBay and you can confirm this is the issue for about $30.

You will need to swap out the power supply and LED driver board.

If you swap those out and have the same issue you have bad leds.

The leds are only available if you purchase the lcd panel assembly. In that case it will be cheaper to buy a new TV.

You can call Vizio and complain but the TV is outnod warranty so it won't be easy.

Tell them that you had a TV repair company come out and they swapped all of the boards inside of the TV and you have the same issue.

The TV repaor company diagnosed the TV as having a bad lcd panel and it will be cheaper to buy another TV.

Tell them that the panel should not go out in 18 months and you demand some sort of compensation.

Good Luck!

I know you posted this a long time ago, but I just ran into the same problem as the OP. I replaced only the LED Driver and the TV worked for about an hour. Should I have replaced the power supply too? And if so, is my new LED driver broken now as well?

I had the same problem with my E55OI-B2E. Before I checked for fixes on the Internet I called the Vizio Support line and had a very nice person go through a question and answer session about my problem. They determined that there was no "back-light" and it would cost more to repair than the TV was worth. They never mentioned the connector that could be bad. I then did checked the Internet for fixes. I decided to open up the TV and check for this problem. Sure enough, connector was lose. I soldered the connector and things are good again. Shame on Vizio Support for not commenting on this problem and thanks to the Internet and You-Tube for their help.

We had the same problem with our Vizio. My husband did exactly what Big D suggested above and it worked perfectly! And to think I almost threw this thing out. A simple fix that saved us the cost of a new TV. Vizio should recommend this instead of saying the television is not repairable and to just buy a new one. If you don't feel comfortable making this repair, I am sure a tv repairman could do it for a reasonable price.

My screen was black but I could hear the sound. I tried the trick to power down the tv and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. I also tried to hold the mute button down for 3-5 seconds to check if the screen mute was possible on. Neither of those worked. Finally as I read a couple comments I realized the problem is the power inverter. So I again jiggled my power cord to make sure everything was correct. Nothing happened. But a couple taps to the box area of the power cord worked!! Tv screen looks norm again. May only be a quick fix, I'm not sure.

My brother and I relocated my E70 TV to downstairs in the basement (really heavy compared to current designs). Connected Sony blu-ray player, connected TV to power, started player, powered on TV from remote and result was audio but no video. Have 5 year warranty from Square Trade with one year left. I consider myself extremely lucky for having extended warranty. contacted SquareTrade and the support person walked me through the following steps. It didn't fix anything, so they are sending out parts and a technician. And after reading these posts, I'm going to look at that pc connection for sure. But I'm going to list what he instructed me to do, though it was useless:

1. unplug tv from power source. (I just unplugged the connector from the back of the TV). Also unplug any hdmi cables to peripheral devices.

2. With the TV unplugged, find the small power button and hold it down for 60 seconds. (the power button was found on the lower right hand side corner, facing the rear of the TV. It's about 1/2" square. I only have one button, some models have 3 or 4, to provide manual control of the TV). I believe this step resets the power logic on the main board. Same technique is used on laptops.

3. Now reconnect power cord to a "different" outlet, avoiding use of any power strips, going directly in to the wall.

4. Using the remote, turn on the TV. Didn't see anything. Turn out lights in room. I can see gray or bluish backlight from led's. looks like a faint cloud. no image.

5. press the menu button. nothing comes up on the display.

6. power on the blu-ray player, DVD starts playing. No video. Same dark screen.

7. "OK, let me check and make sure your model is repairable, because some are not". "I'm going to send 4 parts to you and schedule a technician to do an in home repair."

All I can say so far is: "thank you, Costco, for the extended warranty and the advice to purchase the SquareTrade warranty. Its probably the only time I have ever bought one. btw, I did keep my original receipt. I would say I am very lucky. We shall see how things go. It will take a week.

Here is what worked for me..........

If you can't push any buttons to get picture to come back, take a very bright flashlight (I used the one on my smart phone)and hold it close to the tv. If you can see a very dim picture, push the menu button. The menu will come up but will of course be very hard to see. Select VIDEO section on menu. Change the Picture Mode to GAME. This should ghost out the Automatic Brightness control. Exit.

FIXED IT!!! Just had the green screen of death on my Vizio tv. Sometimes had audio and green screen sometimes had nothing. Switched from hdmi to component rca and still nothing. Usually the simplest and easiest solution is the right solution. Sometimes we tend to overthink things and over complicate it...not just on repairs but life in general :). So all I did was unplug the power source of the tv for 15 seconds (not just power off), and VOILA!!! Got everything back to normal. FYI I was running direct tv on it. Try it and see if t works. Good luck!
