iPhone 3GS housing replacement advise

Hi,

I would like to replace the housing on my 3GS which is cracked badly. I do have couple of questions.

The bezel looks fine and i would like if possible to replace only the back housing. I have bought a back housing for the iPhone 3GS without the bezel and without camera plastic and headphone ring.

This is the item i got :

1. Is it possible to move the bezel from the old one to the new housing with a nice result ?

2. Can the headphone ring be moved the new housing ?

3. I found pictures that the camera holder can be moved to the new housing very simple, same with the ring for the camera. Is it true ?

Here is a pic of Headphone ring and camera holder.

I do know there is housing with bezel and all the mentioned parts mounted already so no need to buy those but now i got the housing without those so let's keep it to what i got.

I would like people who have done this and have experience to answer me. I want to know if the result can be good in the end by doing all this ?

thanks in advance

you'll need to scrape out all the old adhesive from the bezel as there are little plastic prongs that click into the bezel from the back case. if you skip this out it the 2 pieces will have a gap and it will look bad.

You can remove the bezel, its glued on so you will need to glue it to your new one I used a strong flexible glue, super glue is not a good idea. The other two rings will come off the you should get away with just pushing them where they need to go in the new one - they have a mild adhesive on them and they had enough to stick into their new home. If you take care its easy.

@Ben: which glue did you use/do you recommend? I saw others using Super Glue, but I am a little bit sceptic.

I used Unibond Repair Extreme Power Glue. Its a flexible strong glue basically, I wouldn't use super glue personally.

just an fyi: krazy glue gel works just fine, strong bond, and no mess. standard liquid krazy glue is a no-no tho.

i have installed two back housings, mine and my lady's, both were difficult and tedious but well worth the effort.

i wish i could be more help but as with most things in life, you gotta fall on your face a few times before you learn to walk..

try to do the install and you'll get thru it :)
