hiw to format I pad 1 St gen if not connecting

Recently with iOS 9 problems my I pad went in for an auto format and the battery got drained after that I charged it and it goes till connect to iTunes since being 1 gen it cannot reformat with iOS 9 devices . Even the service centre in bangalore can't help me
