iPhone 5C-Black screen but makes "bong" sound

My phone got banged up on the side which the battery lies, black screen and will constantly make the bong sound when plugged in. When it is connected to my MacBook it is recognized on iTunes. I searched for answers and all pointed to needing a new display assembly.

I ventured to the Apple Store yesterday I told them the phone battery was definitely dead and I stopped letting it charge because of the bong sound being annoying.

I was told I indeed needed a new display and to come back in 45 minutes. When I came back I was told they didn't put the new display in because "it wouldn't give them anything even with a new display and that I needed a new device for $269". I went back home refusing to give up, my real problem is I want to extract my photos before giving up on the phone. I found out while trying to extract my photos(which hasn't worked) that the battery was at 0% even after being on the charger for over hour.

Could it be the battery and the display? Or should I just give in to getting a new phone?

Hello ShotgunRider542,

It sounds like you have a battery that will no longer hold its charge, which explains that "bong" notification sounds as well as the 0% battery life even after charging. If you know anyone else with a 5c I would recommend asking them to allow the temporary use of their funtioning battery. Once you have the battery, I would install it before the LCD, eliminating the possibility of a bad screen connection. Then use your original LCD to see if the new battery resolves the issue. If it does then all you need is a new battery. If it still doesnt work then I would recommend installing a working LCD with the new battery to see if that one resolves the issue.

Best Wishes!

Jordan
