Microphone doesnt work in loudspeaker mode (after screen replacement?)

I work in a small shop and two guys came in with two iPhone 6 plus:es, both with broken screens. We replaced them with the same type of parts, and some time later they came back and both of them had microphones that didn't work in loudspeaker mode. It definitely felt like a software issue so I went ahead to Reset All Settings on both of them, and both got stuck on the Apple logo with progress bar at the very beginning of the reset, so now I had to do a complete data reset on both.

They didn't speak our language very well, which makes this a bit more complicated, but I think I could discern that they both had updated recently, to 9.1 i presume. Any ideas why this occurred? Hardware or software? Our replacement parts has worked great so far so the exact same problems occurring on two phones at the same time is weird.

Solución Elegida

I came across this issue as well. Damaging the flex that goes from main proximity flex is possible. However, most of the time when the damage is not evident, the siri mic/ loudspeaker mode mic gets covered by the adhesive used on the aftermarket screens. The adhesive acts like a sound sealent. So, either try taking the mic off the adhesive and check siri and/or phone on loudspeaker mode. That should solve the problem. Try removing the adhesive on ear speaker grommet and use proper adhesive so that it does not block the mic hole which is very tiny and easily blocked.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Aashish

Interesting! I missed this comment as we already "resolved" it by simply replacing the screens again. We'll try the faulty screens with another phone and if the problem persists we'll try your methods. Thanks!

Both phones came back with the same problem, and we resolved it using your solution. Thank you :)

I recently had this issue, with a customer. Similar. After an i6+ display assembly replacement, Siri couldn't hear him. But, I did notice that something would be detected, when I tapped on the bottom of the phone. He said he tried all methods of software to rule it out on his end. I had to advise him to go to apple, as I still don't know what went wrong. Error 53 is a constant issue in the back of my mind at work

Yeah, well, i would've advised the same if their warranty wasn't void after they initially dropped their phones on the ground and broken them. And now Apple blames the warranty void and microphone issue on them repairing their phones through an unauthorized shop. Usually they will blame everything on any small dent on the phone casing though. And since these particular iPhone 6+ customers are terrible at both Swedish and English I can't explain what hardware and software issues are ;D

Isn't error 53 related to touch-ID?

Sounds like you damage the proximity sensor which is the front facing camera and it also has a mic which can be easily damage if your not careful I would try replacing and seeing if this fixes your problem

But the microphone works in other instances, for example when recording video. Seems strange that it would work when recording video but not when calling on loudspeaker if it were damaged?

I don't know why, but this was resolved when we replaced the screens again, which was the last thing we tried hehe. Very strange. Any ideas as to why the screens caused this problem with the microphones and freeze in Reset All Settings?

Well in my opinion I experienced this on my iphone 6 about a week ago before I updated and got error 53. If you press on the screen does it pop up and down like it's loose and not tight? Well in my experience I believe the screen is bad and isn't supporting enough pressure down to where the loudspeakers pins are pressured onto the charging port connector. I know this because I tested my other old lcd screens and they were tight and weren't loose not to mention the speakers were working fine and siri was able to hear me. My newest recent screen caused siri and my loud speakers not to work and my glowing apple logo. I tried everything from using another brand new loud speaker and new charging port and still the same. After testing out the glowing kit for the iphone 6. I knew my newest lcd screen was the problem to siri, my loud speakers and my glowing logo. A pic below to show the glowing logo illuminating. Just make sure you get a good screen. Some screen really do have problems closing correctly.

I’m having the same trouble, I replaced the screen and loudspeaker doesn’t work - people can’t hear me,

Does Siri not work at all? I can’t call to my phone ‘Hey Siri’ but I can use it if I manually start it by holding the home button? I think the quality is not as good as before.
