Keyboard and touchpad oddly responding - 2010 MacBook Air 11

Hello,

My sister gave me her old end 2010 Macbook Air 11" (A1370) to spruce up, telling me the battery was not working anymore. She has been using it for months ( !! ) plugged in with a malfunctioning battery inside...

I opened it, took a look at the battery reference and ordered a new one.

While waiting for the A**z*n delivery, I made a clean install of El Capitan. After using it for a bit, the keyboard stopped working, typing only numbers and blank spaces while the touchpad was only right-clicking.

I am 100% sure no liquid was spilled on it. I opened it up and noticed the battery had swollen since my first opening.

Could it be possible that the battery damaged the keyboard ? Is replacement the only option available for me ?

Thank you for your answers,

P.

Baterys are the bane of devices. When they go or get replaced its curtens for the device. I know of now of 13 cases were the batery was a problem. first off the batery is junk new or not. Second your device is damaged. Third its cheeper to replace the whole device than parts unless you have this exact device in your bone yard and even still its a lot of work to frankenstine a new. Forth if you frankenstine a new you will void warentys if there be any. Fifth if you dont have it in your bone yard parts are so expensive vs a new replacement. Id send it to the great device in the sky and add its corps to my bone yard. Then again there may be hope, the device was "fine" before Am***n's batery, so under the baterys warenty you stand a slim chance of geting the device fixed as it was the batery that damageged your device. Bone yard or batery warenty repare its your choice. I hope this helps.

There is a control board on the the bottom side of trackpad and this controls a few different things including keyboard and trackpad functions. I would check there for damage as it sits directly above the battery so if the battery swelled it could cause damage.
