are you raising the deck to its highest position? Most decks disengage by just letting the belt slip, this typically happens by moving the deck forward slightly as it raises, when it gets high/forward enough the belt slips. If yours actually has a real clutch on the deck, then it is a stuck clutch.

That happened to me when I changed the belt on the deck. I had it twisted on the pulleys the wrong way so make sure you thread the belt properly and also watch the curved and flat sides of the belt are correct.

The spring on the right deck pulley may be missing or old and stretched. With the engine turned off and the mower deck lowered, reach under the mower frame , grasp the pulley, and pull it forward. Restart the engine. If the mower blades do not turn, the spring is the problem.

I don't have that same model, but my deck adjustment is on the opposite side to the chute discharge area. There is an adjustment large screw on the end of a vertical rod from the frame that can be turned to slightly raise or lower the deck. My grounds are so uneven, it is not worth bothering to have the deck even while the ground is so wavy. Have you tried your manual for a hint, or look for the manual online by entering the make/model of your machine? Also more research online with listing (the make, model, and adjusting deck) might give some hints. It helps to make the adjustment on a hard even surface so you can see the exact level of the deck.

My deck is tightly in there without much wiggle space too and my front left deck wheel is really close to the front left mower wheel, but not touching yet.
