Beeps, Overheats, But Does Not Work

My 4S took a fall onto a tile floor. It was in a protective case. The case survived with no damage but the phone stopped working. Completely. The screen is undamaged with no apparent physical imperfections to the phone. Attempts to reset or connect to iTunes are useless. This 4S appears dead, done, and in need of repair.

A few weeks later I found time to pull the back off to inspect for obvious internal issues. I detached the battery and did a cursory inspection of internal components. Everything looks intact. I found nothing obvious inside the phone.

I reassembled deciding to replace components beginning with the main board. As a last check, I plugged the phone in to charge in the event the week or two delay between drop and inspection drained the battery. About 20 minutes after plugging the phone into the charger, I began hearing an intermittent string of 3 beeps. The beeps ultimately tracked to the catatonic 4S.

When I touched the phone it was uncomfortably hot. I work with LiPo batteries in my hobby. First thoughts were thus of overcharge to the LiPo battery. These thoughts quickly evolved into why a dead 4S would beep in an overcharge condition.

Notwithstanding the now likely need to replace the overcharged LiPo, does the above scenario provide any indication of the problem with this 4S? What component / components would provide for an apparent dead iPhone 4S to still beep in an overcharge / overheat condition?
