DIY repair or Apple repair?

I'm inheriting a broken iPhone 6 from one of my family members, and hoping to fix it and upgrade from my iPhone 5. The screen is very broken though, and the body is bent beyond repair. I can easily do the repair myself (I run a small side business fixing phones and computers for friends/family), but is it even worth it? Apple charges 300 bucks to fix it (and I would just get a refurb phone), where if I were to try and get parts it would be around 200. These parts would not be genuine Apple as genuine iPhone 6 parts are VERY hard to track down. Then, I also have to take the time and fix the phone on top of that.

Apple has gotten very competitive.... should I just pay 300, and get basically a BNIB phone based on how damaged it is (smashed corner and bendgate bends, plus demolished screen)? Or should I save 100 bucks, get cheaper parts, and basically completely rebuild the phone myself?

Well, on one hand you may save a little money, but on the other hand, you may also find even more problems along the way. Those two sound easily fixable. You should test, if you can, before hand

Well not really a full on business, just a side job sorta thing. Im just the go-to person for my friends if they need something done. I was more just posting this to see if people had advice/leads on some good parts.

If you look at all the iPhone 6 posts on here, one would think that is a delicate flower that falls to pieces once it is opened. Soething as simple as an LCD assembly replacement often results in other issues.

I would take it to apple and get the out of warranty replacement of I were you. Especially in the condition that you describe it to be in. The odds of it having that much damage and not having logic board damage are slim.
